Positioned within the 116-station Oklahoma Mesonet is Oklahoma's winter wheat belt, where the primary land use is the growing of winter wheat. Previous studies of the region have shown the winter wheat belt to affect local near-surface atmospheric conditions. It is not known, however, under what conditions the near-surface effects of the wheat belt are best defined. Using data from the Oklahoma Mesonet, this research focuses on the environmental conditions under which the influence of winter wheat is most distinct. Quantifying the effects of winter wheat under these conditions is also addressed. This poster will address the preliminary results of this research.
