NPOESS Data Exploitation Plans for Product Processing
Exhibit Hall C (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
Tom Schott, NOAA/NESDIS, Suitland, MD; and S. L. Bunin
The National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) Data Exploitation (NDE) project will link the civilian users of environmental satellite information to NPOESS data. To satisfy end user requirements NDE will make two different categories of products available to users: tailored data records and NOAA-unique products. Environmental, sensor, and temperature data records will be repackaged and tailored to specific product attributes such as format, coverage, frequency, or projection depending on user needs. NOAA-unique products are those in which additional processing of data records will be performed to satisfy existing data requirements of current NOAA missions, including blended products from polar-orbiting and geostationary satellite data, hazard support for volcanic ash detection and tropical storms, microwave surface and hydrological products, and vegetation and ocean products. This poster will provide information on the NDE project and plans for product processing from NPP and NPOESS data.
