The Real-Time Verification System (RTVS-NG): A new verification framework

Sean Madine, OAR, Boulder, CO; and N. D. Matheson, M. A. Petty, D. S. Schaffer, and J. Mahoney

The Real-Time Verification System (RTVS) has provided verification statistics for meteorological forecast products, both experimental and operational, for many years. Driven by increasing requirements from the verification community, the RTVS development team has embarked on a significant reengineering effort. At the center of the effort lies a new verification framework, which will enable effective collaboration between development groups in the community.

The framework approach, in a departure from legacy schemes, separates the creation of verification information from the data management and analysis of the results. The design prioritizes integration of data (meteorological and non-meteorological), optimization of queries, and an effective, standardized import/export capability. It also provides clearly defined data interfaces, which will allow development groups to build collaborative software solutions. A number of use cases and solutions, representing requirements ranging from operational to research, will illustrate the utility of the framework. An associated poster will highlight the initial proof-of-concept development.
