Researching concepts about weather and efficient management of air traffic
Reza Eftekari, MITRE/CAASD, McLean, VA
Weather is a significant factor in managing air traffic in the U.S. In order to assist the FAA in better understanding the weather, in order to more efficiently manage air traffic and the National Aviation System resources, MITRE's Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) is conducting research in several weather related areas. Three of those areas include future concepts for 1) Tactical management of flights in the vicinity of weather, 2) Predicting airspace capacity where severe weather is involved, and 3) Decision making in the face of uncertain weather predictions (using probabilistic data and methods for informing decisions). Dr. Reza Eftekari will discuss these concepts, recent progress on the research, and looking forward into where CAASD is going with future research in these areas.
