Observed and Modeled Drivers of Arctic Change
215-216 (Ernest N. Morial Convention Center)
Observations paint a picture of sweeping change in the Arctic during recent decades. Global climate models project that this behavior will continue, but recent work indicates that model-simulated change is slower than that occurring in the real world. We combine satellite and conventional observations to assess primary drivers of change in sea ice extent and surface radiation fluxes, then investigate whether the same relationships exist in simulations by NCAR's Community Climate System Model.
