We will present the results of the assimilation of the retrieved WindSat winds products into NCEP Global Forecast System (GFS) model. For the period 1 March to 30 March 2007,the impact of WindSat EDRs retrieved from both the Navy and NESDIS will be compared. In particular the forecast impact of the assimilation as measured by 500hPa anomaly correlations and geographic forecast impact are shown. The difference in surface wind vectors between the control and Navy WindSat analysis will be shown. A case study is shown demonstrating a large geographic impact near the surface. Comparisons of the forecast impact of assimilating WindSat data into NCEP GFS using Spectral Statistical-Interpolation with the operational Gridpoint Statistical-Interpolation are documented. Quality control investigations will be discussed.
