In November 2007, a diverse group of ~60 scientists, educators, and policy makers convened to develop a consensus framework for enhancing our nation's atmospheric science and climate literacy, with support from NSF and NOAA. Following the successful Ocean Literacy model and building upon important foundation documents and efforts (such as the Framework for Climate Literacy), the group worked together to develop a draft framework for Atmospheric Science and Climate Literacy. The workshop development committee is now seeking to share the draft framework with the broader community for comment and feedback, so that the resulting framework will represent as broad community involvement as possible within the time allotted for completion. The framework will be revised, based on this feedback, and completed by the end of July, 2008. Co-sponsoring organizations include the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society, the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, and the National Earth Science Teachers Association.
