Integration of NAWIPS decoders within AWIPS II

David Plummer, NOAA/NWS/NCEP, Camp Springs, MD; and S. Jacobs, T. Lee, and B. A. Gordon

This paper describes the current progress of the migration of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) unique data type decoders into AWIPS2. The objective of this migration is to decode each data type into the AWIPS2 database for later display or manipulation within the CAVE National Centers perspective. Unique data types would be those not typically available on the SBN or not used in operations at the Weather Forecast Offices (WFO), such as International SIGMETs or Ice Drift. To date, more than 20 decoders have been ported, including those implementing the HDF5 data storage format.
