Visualizing dynamic weather and ocean data with Google Earth 5

Cris Castello, Google, Inc., Mountain View, CA; and P. Giencke

With more than 500 million unique user activations to date, Google Earth reflects the increasing public interest in geographic data. To be sure, Google Earth has become an essential tool for scientists and researchers to visualize their data. Combining the ability to represent geographic data in 4-D with high resolution orthoimagery, user friendly query and navigation tools, Google Earth can make even the most complex environmental data universally understandable and accessible. This presentation will feature examples of using Google Earth to display meteorological and oceanographic data (including some insights on how Google processes weather data), along with tools and tips for integrating other such observational datasets.
