A Nested Tracking Approach for Reducing the Slow Speed Bias Associated with Atmospheric Motion Vectors (AMVs)
Jaime M. Daniels, NOAA/NESDIS, Camp Springs, MD; and W. Bresky
This work introduces a new nested tracking approach that is shown to significantly reduce the slow speed bias commonly associated with mid and upper-level satellite derived wind estimates. Results from case studies involving Meteosat-8 rapid-scan imagery aimed are shown that illustrate and characterize the slow speed bias and the improvement obtained when the new nested tracking approach is used.
