This paper describes the implementation of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) AWIPS (NAWIPS) Product Generation (PGEN) functionality as migrated to AWIPS II. The objective of this migration was to fully represent the current NAWIPS PGEN functionality within the new architecture. The NCEP forecasters use the NAWIPS PGEN software for the operational creation of numerous official NWS/NCEP graphical, text and grid products. PGEN consists of a suite of sophisticated tools for the creation, editing and rendering of meteorological objects and grids. The user experience is driven by a product-centric philosophy whereby users can configure various aspects of the process such as tools, output products (text, images, grids), layers, filters, clipping and sharing. The creation of text and image products is performed by various formatting factories by extracting metainformation from the objects or combinations of objects.
