Strengthening of the stratospheric circulation over the period of 1980-2009 is shown through a combined analysis of satellite measurements of lower stratospheric temperature, observations of meridional heat transport, and radiative transfer calculations. Continued strengthening would have important implications for the ozone recovery and climate change in the 21st century through its impacts on ozone transport and tropospheric circulation.
