The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service, (NWS) provides severe weather awareness and preparedness material to teachers and students nation wide. Traditionally this information is provided in support of severe weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes and floods. The NWS is embarked on an evolving way of doing business and a changing line of products and services. The NWS will gradually move from a Warnings and Forecast operations to a Impact-based Decision Support operations. This evolving line of products and services is driven by technology, innovation and new customers. NWS products of the future will support the broad NOAA mission of preserving our environment and ecosystems, water resource management and human health. Embed within these new products will be a “social” aspect to help with bring behavioral changes to our partners and users. Benefits of this new way of doing business will be an extension of services to a broader family of constituents and promoting partnerships within the weather enterprise. These enhanced services of NWS will drive societal and economic benefits for the entire nation.
