Getting students to ask questions is never easy, especially when the course involves more than 50 students. In this presentation, I will share recent efforts to use Twitter to facilitate two-way communication with students in a large Oceanography lecture at SUNY Oneonta in Fall 2010. In particular, I will highlight the efficacy of allowing students to tweet questions during and after lecture, retweeting questions of general interest, and tweeting links to relevant current events for students to consider prior to class meetings. I will also present lessons learned in this endeavour for your consideration.
