As the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) transitions to become the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) and the Defense Weather Satellite System (DWSS), the NOAA/STAR-led Algorithm and Data Products Division of the JPSS program office has taken over Calibration and Validation (Cal/Val) efforts for the NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP). NPP Cal/Val efforts have continued with no interruption, and the team is continuing to plan and develop tools for the calibration of the NPP sensors and validation of Sensor Data Records (SDRs) and Environmental Data Records (EDRs). Additionally, the teams are identifying sources of correlative data for the validation of the NPP products. This presentation will describe existent and planned tools, as well as specific correlative data resources that will be utilized in the post-launch Cal/Val effort.
