The Department of Defense has assumed responsibility for the early morning polar environmental satellite orbit after the restructure of the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System program. In this presentation, the Defense Weather Satellite System (DWSS) Program Office will provide a status update on the remaining Defense Meteorological Satellite Program satellites and the new DWSS program. This update will include information on requirements, sensors, data products, and the spacecraft as well as the current schedules for DMSP and DWSS. The presentation will also address the cooperation between the DWSS and the Joint Polar Satellite System in sharing a new ground system.
