Mesoscale soundings using combined GOES-R and JPSS spectral radiances

A physical-statistical algorithm has been developed to obtain mesoscale resolution soundings from the combination of high temporal and horizontal resolution GOES-R and high vertical resolution JPSS spectral radiance observations. The method was tested and validated using NPOESS Airborne Sounding Testbed Interferometer (NAST-I) data obtained during two field programs, the Joint Airborne IASI Validation Experiment (JAIVEX) and the Genesis and Rapid Intensification Processes (GRIP) experiment. The NAST-I data provided both the GOES-R and JPSS radiance proxy data for testing the algorithm as well as ground truth atmospheric profiles for the validation of the results.
