AWIPS-II into the future

Building upon the technology introduced with AWIPS II, this paper will discuss approaches for implementation of new capabilities to support the operational forecaster. Near term capabilities such as a mobile client for the Common AWIPS Visualization Environment (CAVE), intrinsic collaboration including white boarding, built-in training and case review, and smart data distribution, as well as longer term enhancements such as distributed data access, impact based decision aids, and data distribution to end user devices will be discussed.
