Hydrometeorology Grand Challenge – Precipitation Processes: From Understanding to Predictability
Room 252/253 (New Orleans Convention Center )
Ana P. Barros, Duke University, Durham, NC

Getting precipitation right, where it falls, when it falls, and ahead of time to meet societal planning and decision-making needs remains an elusive target. Yet, over the last two decades, significant progress has been accomplished toward improved predictability in many fronts including quantitative assessment and verification metrics, data assimilation, ensemble generation, and development of new physical parameterizations of fundamental processes. Here, I review some key milestones 1990-2010. In this journey, Prof. Krishnamurti's research provided impulse, vision, and abundant inspiration.
