The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System II (AWIPS II) is undergoing Operational Field Testing. AWIPS II will be deploying through the fall of 2012. We will discuss the potential to apply the Raytheon AppSmart™ product to provide an application store framework for managing tools and extensions. AppSmart™ provides the AWIPS II user with an experience similar to that provide by Apple for the iPhone/iPad. Locally developed SmartTools, SmartInits, Derived Parameter Scripts, Procedures, and even Plug-ins can be submitted to the store for sharing across the enterprise. The store will provide quality management, user reviews with star ratings, versioning, and installation all from a friendly web interface. We will conclude by highlighting the benefits of providing centralized national management for tools developed across the NWS enterprise.
