For as long as planes have been in the air, one of the major obstacles that pilots had to face were the elements of weather. To this day, weather is a major contributing factor in air traffic delays and safety concerns. The enroute weather systems provide Air Traffic controller display systems, such as DSR, ERAM, MEARTS and ATOP, with radar mosaics that depict current weather conditions and help the air traffic controllers in their decision making on how to route the air traffic around bad weather.
This paper will focus on the net-centric approach of delivering Selectable NEXRAD mosaics to NAS systems. We will also explore the advantages of the net-centric approach for mosaic delivery as compared to the currently used delivery method.
