Room 18D (Austin Convention Center)
Maryanne Strobel RN MSN CDE, GPA, Providence Village, TX

Living with chronic disease means learning to self manage the condition. People are taught to be aware of weather forecasts to be prepared to manage their disease during weather disasters. BUT……..the reality is that Self-Management during disasters may not be feasible…so What Do WE as first responders, medical professionals and weather experts do to care for masses of disaster victims who have chronic conditions? How do we use weather forecasts and products before, during, and after the weather event to lessen the impact on the affected community as well as the community that receives the evacuees? Learn how chronic disease experts have expanded their scope to collaborate with weather professionals and to integrate disaster care management with weather forecasts and products in order to achieve the best outcomes for individuals and communities.
