Reports of severe weather events are extremely valuable to the NWS, especially in helping it make decisions about issuing public alerts. Despite this importance, the most common way for the NWS to receive these reports are by phone, which require manpower to receive the reports. While social media is becoming increasingly more used, there is still not a mobile application that allows for users to submit these reports. This is the purpose of SIREN. SIREN is an Android application that will allow users to submit severe reports to the NWS. Since SIREN has been built with advice, feedback, and field testing of a NWS WFO, it is designed to simulate an interview, providing the information needed to make critical decisions during severe weather events.
