With the completion of the dual polarization upgrade to the NEXRAD network, focus has resumed on enhancements to the radar signal processor with the goal of improving the quality of radar data. One of the enhancements scheduled for operational implementation in the near future is the processing of Staggered Pulse-Repetition-Time (PRT) waveforms, which provides improved range and velocity ambiguity mitigation. This paper describes the Staggered PRT algorithm for the NEXRAD network, its associated scanning strategies, and the operational benefits that are expected to be realized with the operational deployment of this technique.
