The International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC), located at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, Florida, partnered with the Miami Science Museum and Miami-Dade County Emergency Management to create Hurricane Science, Mitigation & Preparedness Day (Feel the Force) at the Museum. This public education event showcased hurricane science, mitigation, preparedness and safety. Families were educated and entertained throughout the day with tremendous support from IHRC partners and South Florida agencies. This event received great attendance and coverage by the South Florida media which resulted in great visibility in the community. Special interactive exhibits and demonstrations included: Wall of Wind, P-3 Hurricane Hunter, Cockpit and Weather on Wheels. Various distinguished hurricane experts participated interacted with the public: Jack Beven, Senior Hurricane Specialist, National Hurricane Center, Robert Molleda, Warning Coordination Meteorologist, National Weather Service-Miami, Dr. Frank Marks, NOAA/AOML Hurricane Research Division, Neal Dorst, NOAA/AOML Hurricane Research Division, Max Mayfield, former NHC Director and WPLG-TV Hurricane Expert and Curt Sommerhof, Director, Miami-Dade Emergency Management.
