In this work we will provide information on testing, troubleshooting and integrating changes to various Sensor Data Records (SDR) and Environmental Data Records (EDR) algorithms for the instruments that are planned to be on board of JPSS-1 satellite. These instruments include Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS), Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) and Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS). These instruments are already on board the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) satellite and their advanced versions will be on board the JPSS-1. S-NPP satellite was launched successfully on October 28, 2011 and JPSS-1 is planned to be launched in early 2017. The raw data from the instruments is processed by using sophisticated SDR and EDR algorithms and are translated to “products” that can illustrate Earth phenomena. Currently the raw data from S-NPP is processed in the operational system IDPS (Interface Data Processing Segment) developed by Raytheon and the same system will be used to process data from JPSS-1. ADL is the test system that mimics IDPS and is used for testing, troubleshooting and integrating algorithm updates. We will describe the eight step process we use for testing and troubleshooting the algorithms in ADL. We will discuss the four-step quality check method we use to verify the test results and check for the algorithm accuracy and product accuracy before we submit the change request package to Data Products Engineering Services (DPES). All the algorithm change packages go through two-phase testing procedure, functional testing and regression testing before they go through a review process that evaluates its suitability for integration into the operational system. We will provide examples and illustrate the process for both SDR and EDR algorithms.
