The MTG-IRS Level 2 Validation and Demonstration Processor (L2VDP) is an end-to-end processor for the processing of MTG-IRS observations. The L2VDP consists of a cloud detection method, a 1dvar retrieval package and a post-processing module. Three presentations are proposed to cover the mathematical aspects (poster presentation) while selected results will be presented during two oral presentation. Here selected results for now-casting applications are described. Using IASI as a proxy for MTG-IRS level 2 products over Europe during pre-convective situations has been prepared. This data has been presented to operational forecasters to analyse the relative merits of this information. At the German Weather Service (DWD) the data has been ingested in the Nino workstation and combined with other observations to generate an analysis of a preconvective situation which occurred during summer 2013 over Europe. At the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) the same situation was analysed using a novel 3D visualisation method. Initial results of these analysis to document the value of the level 2 products generated by the L2VDP processor will be presented.
