Six fundamental operational terrestrial products from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) satellite are generated by the Interface Data Processing System (IDPS). The IDPS surface reflectance, vegetation index, surface albedo, land surface temperature, surface type and active fire products have reached provisional or validated maturity and work is ongoing on their incorporation into NOAA operational applications. Additional NOAA-unique VIIRS land data products are developed and produced within NOAA's Suomi NPP Data Exploitation (NDE) program. The NDE Green Vegetation Fraction Product is now operational and work is ongoing for impact assessment and incorporation into NCEP's land schemes. The NDE VIIRS Vegetation Health product is used for drought applications and for establishing continuity with long-term data records from heritage sensors. Product improvement towards meeting requirements for the JPSS 1 satellite is ongoing, including top-of-canopy Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, and Fire Radiative Power. Preparations for developing additional operational land data products to better meet end users' needs are also underway. In addition to building on NOAA heritage products, this land product development is also carried out in coordination with NASA's Science Teams to ensure consistency and continuity with products from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) Terra and Aqua satellites.
