J15.1 Modified Rossby Waves in the Solar Interior: Driving A Solar “Meteorology” Mission

Using a combination of SOHO/EIT STEREO/SECCHI/EUVI and SDO/AIA imaging in concert with SDO/HMI magnetograms we reveal patterns in the data that are consistent in appearance with global scale rotationally driven waves on the activity bands of the solar magnetic polarity cycle. This global scale magnetic evolution is a significant driver of episodic and nascent space weather. The research discussed provides insight into the root causes of space weather and motivates a new "distributed technology" study of the entire solar atmosphere.
