Room 353 ( New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center)
During the past couple of decades, the National Hurricane Center has developed many new graphical and probabilistic products to help communicate potential hurricane hazards to the public and emergency managers. As these products have become available, the NHC and NWS have increased their outreach and training efforts to ensure emergency mangers and the public are able to use these tools to make the most informed hurricane evacuation and preparedness decisions. Much of this training occurs with the assistance of emergency management, media, and academic partners. This presentation will describe these partnerships and the formal training that is provided annually. The discussion will conclude with a look at new innovative partnerships with the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, the University of Rhode Island's Hurricane Science and Society Team, and Florida International University. These new partnerships have increased reach to Spanish-language residents and school children in hurricane-prone areas.
