Delivering on-time weather forecasts depends heavily on the tuning of the cluster, especially the low latency interconnect. Here we show with WRF, ARPS, and A DCIRC how to benchmark and tune each application on several clusters (Omnipath on Intel, EDR on Dell, Aires on CrayXC). We also show a true comparison between diff erening systems outlining the benefits of each interconnect. An optimized network stack dramatically raises the MPI performance. Furthermore, this allows more forecasts to be ran over the same time. We will also investigate tuning each application in regards to their own settings against a base test case.
