The stratospheric ozone layer depletion went from a hypothesis to a reality in over a couple of decades. Amazingly, the world took action to curb the growth of ozone depleting substances and thus prevent larger depletion and is now the ozone layer is on the mend. This transformation required not only research but also efforts to bring the science and scientist together to solve this environmental problem over a course of human lifetime.

I will briefly describe the current state of the ozone layer and its predicted future from the most recent internal assessment of the ozone layer. I will also attempt to describe the important work of Marvin Geller's contribution to the assessment, via direct contributions as well as enabling researchers of diverse expertise to focus on this issue together.
