The mPING project has become relatively popular and as a result, has generated nearly 900,000 observations since its inception on 19 Dec 2012. NWS offices have often encouraged its use and have solicited more mPING observations under circumstances when areas are particularly sensitive to certain precipitation types and also when uncertainty exists concerning the expected winter precipitation type. NWS forecast offices have often referred to the mPING public web display to visualize the mPING reports but there has been no way to display the reports in AWIPS2. However, a new AWIPS2 plug-in has been developed that allows for the ingest and display of mPING data. This provides the ability to display mPING reports in combination with any other data inside AWIPS2 such as radar or satellite. This paper will demonstrate some of that new capability and discuss some of the technical details of the new AWIPS2 mPING plug-in.
