2.1 FEMA Space Weather Activities

FEMA is engaged in a multi-layer effort to address response to space weather events. The primary FEMA operational response will be detailed in the in the Power Outage Incident Annex (POIA) to the Federal Interagency Operations Plan for both Response and Recovery. FEMA is also participating in several space weather efforts including the Space Weather Operations, Research and Mitigation Task Force which is developing a National Space Weather Strategy under the direction of the OSTP. FEMA is also participating in two other efforts providing operational inputs as a co-lead on the Space Weather Societal Benefit Area Team for the 2016 Earth Observations Assessment and as an Operational co-lead for the OSTP led National Preparedness Science and Technology Task Force Space Hazard Review Team. The purpose of this task force is to assess the current status of Federal Science and Technology investments across the five Presidential Policy Directive -8 (PPD-8) mission areas.
