4.3 MesoPy: A Simple Library for Interacting with MesoWest Data

Room 225 ( New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center)
Joshua Clark, MesoWest, Univ. of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT

The recent creation of the MesoWest application programming interface (API) has made meteorological surface observation retrieval much more accessible by providing data via JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), an open standard format that is both human-readable and easily interpreted in Python. MesoPy is a pure python interface to the API allowing users to easily retrieve observations at over 43,000 stations across the United States for up to 100,000 station-hours per request. This data is returned to the user as a Python object and is immediately suitable for use in analysis and visualization packages. Comprehensive documentation, user support information, and example usage can be found at https://github.com/jclark754/MesoPy.
