7.1 Social and Behavioral Science for a Weather Ready Nation: Coordinating OAR Research to Address NWS Needs

Wednesday, 13 January 2016: 10:30 AM
Room 333-334 ( New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center)
Kimberly E. Klockow, NOAA, Silver Spring, MD; and J. Cortinas Jr., J. Sprague, and V. Brown

As demand for social & behavioral science has grown within the weather enterprise, institutions for research and operations have begun to examine how this work could be applied to their endeavors. This presentation will provide a brief overview of an assessment conducted to understand what issues NOAA entities (e.g. labs, cooperative institutes, and NCEP centers) have begun exploring, where they would like to see more research done, and where research and operational entities share common interests. This presentation aims to provide a common vision for several parallel efforts, and to bring together those with similar interests across NWS, OAR, and the social & physical science research communities.
