Progress Report on the Ensemble Tool in AWIPS-II

The Ensemble Tool in AWIPS II is in year 4 of a five-year plan for development and implementation. It is one of three components of the Forecaster Decision Support Environment. FDSE is an NWS project to advance AWIPS II to help forecasters work more efficiently and elevate the quality of interactive decision support to users. The Ensemble Tool is aimed directly at decision support, by providing tools to determine event probabilities, and by providing tools to sort among alternative scenarios in situations where the forecast could be bi-modal.

The Distribution Viewer (for probabilities) and the Matrix Navigator (for alternative scenarios) were implemented in OB16.2.2, fielded late summer 2016. FY17 development goals such as new options for time series display and better ensemble interaction features may be ready for demonstration at the Conference.
