Mineral dust aerosol plays an important role in catalyzing multiphase and heterogeneous atmospheric processes. In this talk, I will discuss some recent laboratory studies to determine reaction mechanisms and kinetics of different mineral and other metal-containing mediated processes of atmospheric importance including in sulfate formation. Additionally, I will focus on new opportunities to combine and integrate laboratory and modeling studies to accurately represent the heterogeneous and multiphase chemistry, iron-deposition, optical and climate-relevant properties of mineral dust in the troposphere.
