Multi-Angle Implementation of Atmospheric Correction (MAIAC) is a new algorithm that uses time series analysis and processing of groups of pixels for advanced cloud detection and retrieval of aerosol and surface bidirectional reflectance properties. MAIAC performs aerosol retrievals over both dark and bright surfaces including deserts, and shows good sensitivity for characterization of not only major dust storms but also small local dust sources at 1km resolution. I will discuss algorithm sensitivity, illustrate retrieval capabilities and provide comparison with the MODIS Deep Blue Algorithm.
