Harris Corporation has operated a cloud-based product generation and distribution system based on the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-R Series (GOES-R) Ground Segment, for the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) instrument. The use of a cloud platform enables an easily scalable product generation environment that can accommodate new algorithms or data sources, and avoids the hardware and management costs associated with a dedicated datacenter. The Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) instrument on the Himawari-8 satellite was used to provide real-time input data for the cloud based enterprise system. A container approach is used to incorporate weather science algorithms into the cloud. We will show some results of running weather science algorithms in this type of environment and explain how these results can be scaled to an operational enterprise ground system.
