NOAA Unique Combined Atmospheric Processing System (SNPP NUCAPS) Validation

This presentation overviews the performance of the operational SNPP NOAA Unique Combined Atmospheric Processing System (NUCAPS) environmental data record (EDR) products with focus given to atmospheric vertical temperature and moisture profile (AVTP and AVMP) retrieval products.  The latest offline versions NUCAPS profile retrievals are validated versus ECMWF model along with global dedicated and reference radiosondes.  NUCAPS EDR product assessments are made with reference to the JPSS Level 1 requirements. Comparisons of the latest offline code utilizing nominal-resolution and full-resolution Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) data will also be presented.  The CrIS full-resolution NUCAPS AVTP and AVMP products are shown to be in good agreement with the validated operational nominal-resolution code, and highlights from recent field campaigns will be presented.
