Observations lead the way in wind energy, but in many locations they are non-existent to just a few, for short time frames and made with poor or poorly maintained equipment.  We will explore some the reasons why and potential solutions to the issue of vital observations for wind energy with respect to resource assessment, model verification and validation and the lifetime of the wind plant climatology.
