The presentation will focus on the challenges and benefits to providing undergraduate students meaningful experiences during the summer research program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, a small liberal arts institution. We will discuss a variety of aspects related to the program from the last 12 years including program details, student outcomes, pedagogic approaches, and group activities. Research by student participants has been conducted on a variety of mesoscale, synoptic, and climate topics. Selected results from student research investigations will be presented to provide the audience with the scale, expectations, and outcomes of research conducted by undergraduates in a concentrated, full-time research internship setting.
