Heavy U.S. snowstorms were analyzed for the period 1950-2000. Of the approximately 1950 events in the 51-year period, 241 snowstorms occurring east of the Rockies produced six or more inches over an area greater than 100,000 square miles. There was no trend when these events were analyzed for the study area, however, regional trends were noted and will be described. Results of this study will be compared to those found when examining insured losses from snowstorm-related "catastrophes."
