A study of Hurricane Lili's rapid intensification and rapid weakening periods on October 2 and 3, 2002 is being conducted. The analysis technique will use sensitivity studies of thermodynamic and SST forcing from Aqua, Terra, AVHRR, TRMM, and dropsonde data in a 6-hr cycling mode in MM5. 4DVAR experiments are also being performed. Results of the individual and cumulative impact of dry air intrusion, wind shear, warm eddies, and cold shel water will be presented.
