Satellite meteorology resources for K-16 educators and students

Satellite Meteorology provides scientists and educators with exciting tools for investigation, inquiry, analysis and stewardship. To this end, the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) has been developing cutting edge software for over two decades while networking with professional meteorologists, college students, K-16 educators and students to continually raise awareness and appreciation for satellite technology. As a member of the Federation of Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) and a DLESE collaborator, CIMSS strives to share Earth science data with the educational community to foster a better understanding of the Earth's physical systems.

This AMS presentation will present two CIMSS educational initiatives: “Satellite Meteorology for Grades 7-12” and “Satellite Observations in Science Education.” Demonstrations of several interactive hands-on activities will be featured during the presentation along with a summary of opportunities at CIMSS. Educator's edition of a CIMSS CD-ROM will be distributed to all participants.
