Creating effective teaching strategies for broadcast meteorology instruction using online weather information
Exhibit Hall A2 (Georgia World Congress Center)
Janet I. Halpin, Chicago State Univ., Chicago, IL

Chicago State University is located in the far south side of Chicago, serving an ethnically diverse student body. The Geography program at CSU provides general education and service courses to a variety of academic programs, in addition to preparing geography majors and minors. The English and Speech Department has enhanced its program in broadcasting, and radio and television production. Students will take the AMS online meteorology course as an introduction to broadcast meteorology. Instructors in the Geography Program are working with the Broadcasting Program to develop instructional strategies appropriate for these students, which will be equally useful to other students in the class. Use of online material will provide real-time data and practical experience in seeing how the science and art of weather forecasting is accomplished.
