Assessing Student's Understanding of Online Weather Media
Exhibit Hall A2 (Georgia World Congress Center)
Matthew J. Benus, Purdue Univ., Hammond, IN

Students taking an undergraduate weather studies course supported by AMS On-line Weather Studies Diversity Project in the Fall of 2005 were asked to express their understanding of weather media both before they began the class and after they finished it. Pre- and post-assessment pieces were given to these students. Both assessments included multiple-choice and short answer questions. Throughout the course, students were introduced to a variety of weather media.

This session will consider two things. First it will look at an individual's change in understanding of weather media. Secondly, it will compare the results of the pre-assessment of students who successfully completed the class with passing grades and those who withdrew from the class.
