Potential impacts of aerosol-land-atmosphere interaction on the Indian
A314 (Georgia World Congress Center)
The Asian monsoon is the major precipitation source and an important system within the global climate. In this paper, we highlight the role that aerosol induced land-atmosphere interactions may play in modulating the multi-scale aspect of Indian monsoons. To illustrate these aspects, the various nonlinear feedbacks due to aerosol/diffuse radiation on coupled interactions are discussed. It is suggested that because of the magnitude of aerosol loading and the nature of land-atmosphere interactions, there is a potential that aerosol-land-surface feedbacks are central in modulating the mesoscale monsoonal characteristics in the Indo-Ganges Basin.
