Integrated in-situ ocean data delivery for low and high bandwidth Internet connections
Presentation PDF (467.7 kB)
The goals for this system are: (1) to develop and implement an operational Pacific regional ocean data and information portal for high bandwidth users that facilitates exploration of in-situ data through a “one-stop shopping” (single interface) that integrates real-time data streams with archives across the Internet and (2) to provide synchronization software and DVDs or CD-ROMS containing the integrated dataset from NODC to users without a high-speed network. The synchronization software is then used to periodically update the CD/DVD-ROM-based archive with new data.
The success of this project will provide a prototype for the next generation of NOAA products and services that are responsive to needs of the Pacific region ocean communities, governments and business. The developmental and implemental strategy and framework of the project provide adequate coverage and efficient sharing and continuity of high quality data in the islands of Hawaii, the Northwestern Hawaii Islands, and the American Flag Territories.
